The project

The Draper Asteroid Sample Harvester (DASH) incorporates Draper's positioning and navigation technologies within a conceptual spacecraft designed for asteroid sample retrieval missions. I acted as the lead Industrial Designer on the project in collaboration with Draper's Industrial Design Manager Robert de Saint Phalle, and Visual Designer Garrett Brown.

Inspiration board of angular vehicles, spacecraft, a motorbike and small devices, with a list of design traits
Page of pencil sketches exploring faceted spacecraft bodies with solar panels and instruments
Grey CAD renders of the spacecraft body from several angles, with and without solar panels
Two renders on a dark background: the full spacecraft with large solar panels and a smaller version above it
Labeled render of the spacecraft top with callouts for cameras, spectrometer and antenna
Labeled render of the spacecraft top with callouts for the sample arm, sample capsule, lidar and star trackers
Photo collage of building the 1/12 scale model: printed parts, aluminum pieces and the assembled model on a table
Close-up of the white and black Draper spacecraft with red accents and solar panels against a dark background
Six photos of the Engineering Possibilities 2018 exhibit: orange and white domes, a wall of text and visitors
Draper employee talking beside the spacecraft model and a tablet on a stand at the exhibit
Twelve animation frames: a rocket launch, spacecraft in orbit, a control room, an asteroid and a capsule landing
Animation frame: the spacecraft seen from behind with Earth below
Animation frame: a person in silhouette facing a mission control screen titled Draper Asteroid Sample Harvester
Animation frame: the spacecraft with solar panels flying above Earth
Animation frame: a robotic arm reaching down to a rocky asteroid surface
Animation frame: the spacecraft's sample capsule and instruments against a starry sky
Animation frame: the sample capsule with parachute lines landed in a desert with red cliffs
