Hand holding a phone showing a map with pink crowd-density circles, a time slider and a route line

The project

Designed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Crowd Control addresses the anxiety of navigating densely populated areas during a public health crisis. It integrates anonymized, real-time population data to give visibility into crowd density so people can make informed navigation decisions without compromising privacy. Developed as part of an Experience Design Master's program at Northeastern University.

Title slide, Crowd Control: See it. Navigate it., over a dark photo of a busy pedestrian street
The Problem slide with questions about social distancing, beside a photo of a dense crowd
Flow diagram of staying safe in the COVID-19 pandemic, from hygiene to social distancing, quarantine and isolation
The Solution slide beside a photo of a busy street, listing two paths: built-in data overlays or a standalone app
Why Now slide with a chart of COVID-19 cases by day and a chart of estimated impact on global GDP
Competitive research summary table comparing crowdless, mContain and 1point5 on data source and effectiveness
Three competitor apps shown on phones: crowdless, mContain and 1point5, each with a short description
Three user profiles with grayscale portraits: Nicole, Elijah and Susan, with age, job and needs
Privacy Concerns slide stating that crowd data stays anonymous and approximate
